Professor Nicholas Pickwoad trained in bookbinding and book conservation with Roger Powell, and ran his own workshop from 1977 to 1989 ; he has been Adviser on book conservation to the National Trust since 1978. He taught at Columbia University in New York from 1989 to 1992 and was Chief Conservator in the Harvard University Library from 1992 to 1995. He is now project leader of the St Catherine’s Monastery Library Project based at the University of the Arts London where he is director of the Ligatus Research Centre, which is dedicated to the history of bookbinding.

Nicholas Pickwoad a été formé à la reliure et à la conservation du livre par Roger Powell, et a eu son propre atelier de 1977 à 1989. Il est conseiller du National Trust pour la conservation du livre depuis 1978. Il a enseigné à l’Université Columbia de New-York de 1989 à 1992, et a été Directeur de la conservation à la bibliothèque de l’Université d’Harvard de 1992 à 1995. Il est à présent professeur à l’Université des Arts à Londres, où il dirige le Ligatus Research Center, consacré à l’histoire de la reliure, ainsi que le Projet de la bibliothèque du monastère de Sainte-Catherine.
